BELLEVUE, Mich. (WILX) - Families across Mid-Michigan are teaming up with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to raise awareness of fentanyl’s dangers ahead of National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day on Aug. 21.

For Louise Taylor, the crisis is personal. Her son Mitchell died in 2020 after repeated overdoses. She says the pain of losing him inspired her to start Mitchell’s Hope , a nonprofit that focuses on prevention and education.

“There were numerous times where the first responders were called because he was unconscious and they brought him back with Narcan,” Taylor said. “There are some times where it took four Narcans to bring him back. And this last time we couldn’t bring him back.”

The DEA says fentanyl is unlike any drug threat the country has faced before.
