FORT MILL, S.C. — A man was shot and killed at the Motel 6 near Carowinds in late July however no charges have been filed against the shooter, York County Sheriff's Office said.

23-year-old Kendale Richardson Williams was killed by an unnamed shooting suspect at 3:32 a.m. on July 27.

When deputies and investigators showed up to the scene, they detained the suspect and interviewed witnesses. The suspect was a rideshare driver picking up Williams.

Investigators say Williams allegedly used a stun gun on the driver and attempted to strangle him. The driver opened fire on Williams with a gun he lawfully carried.

The Sixteenth Circuit Solicitor determined the driver was acting in self defense and will not be charged for the death of Williams.

Williams was pronounced deceased on the scene. F
