CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Some people in Iowa are just starting to rebuild from the 2020 derecho after years’ long fights with their insurance companies.

Work is finally starting at this skeleton of a building on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids. The 2020 derecho destroyed The River of Life Church.

It’s taken five years for work to begin following a long battle with the insurance company.

“We felt like they had not given us enough to replace what was destroyed,” said Marcus Bratsch, lead pastor at the River of Life church.

The church can now start construction, but only after filing a lawsuit with the insurance company, which received a settlement at the end of last year.
