SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - K-9s are working police dogs that can be trained to detect narcotics or explosives, catch suspects, and search for evidence at crime scenes.

But, every year, those K-9s have their skills tested to be recertified to keep working.

This year, the United States Police Canine Association is hosting the K-9 trials in Woodbury County.

A total of 42 K-9 units from Minnesota and Iowa are taking part in the trials in Sioux City.

The K-9 trials are a way to certify dogs for patrol duties. Those in attendance say that they look forward to the trials each year because of the community they have built.
