OXFORD, Connecticut — The memories a home can hold can be strong yet so fragile at the same time.

Over the course of the Naugatuck Valley floods in August 2024, families saw their homes destroyed and the memories they created seemingly lost forever.

“At no point did we ever think the whole house was gonna go,” said Randi Marcucio, of Oxford, to reporters in 2024.

Roughly three years ago, Marcucio bought a dream home for her and her son Rhylee. Now its absence serves as both a heartfelt and haunting memory.

“I do get more of a sense of fear and some anxiety because it was pretty horrific,” Marcucio said. “The water had risen to a level I had never seen before, and not only that, it was moving so fast."

She described the situation as "fight or flight."
