A gun was confiscated at Chicago's Whitney M. Young Magnet High School on Monday, the first day of the new school year.
Principal Rickey Harris sent a letter to the Near West Side school community about the incident, saying a weapon was located during standard entry screening. The gun was immediately secured and did not proceed further into the building, according to the principal.
"No threats were made and no students or staff members were physically injured as a result of this situation," he stated, in part.
Harris said he couldn't additional provide details for privacy reasons, but the matter was being handled in accordance with CPS policies.
