CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- An area that lacks significant commercial businesses and has several unincorporated properties may get a major community hub.
Developer Queen City Land is seeking to rezone nearly 16 acres at the intersection of Plaza Road Extension and Hood Road in northeast Charlotte. The petition presented at Monday's City Council meeting calls for 94 townhomes, 4,500 square feet of retail and a 20,000-square-foot racquet-oriented facility.
Queen City Land attorney Collin Brown explained that the Neighborhood Services zoning currently allows a shopping center, per a plan from 20 years ago, but the proposed Neighborhood Center zoning would broaden the possibilities.
However, city planning staff does not recommend the project.
