WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Police have issued a consumer alert for shoppers in local plaza parking lots following reports of schemers targeting individuals with fake electronics.
The scheme, often referred to as the 'white van' electronics scheme, involves individuals selling counterfeit or low-quality items at seemingly low prices.
A 22News viewer reported being approached in a West Springfield parking lot, where they were shown what appeared to be legitimate electronics for a cheap price, only to later discover the item was a fake.
"They're going to offer you a great deal and they'll take as much cash as you want," said Ryan Walsh, spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department. "If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
The scheme typically involves a van ma
