COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 25-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after being shot by police near a YMCA in Newark on Friday morning. The man who was shot by police was identified by his family as Dylan Goodin.

On Friday morning around 7:15 a.m., Newark police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot near the YMCA day care. According to police, officers recognized the car as the same vehicle that had fled from a nearby town two days earlier.

When officers made contact with Goodin, who was inside the vehicle, they discovered he was holding a gun. Police said they told him multiple times to drop the weapon and show his hands before an officer fired his gun in response to Goodin's actions.
