City leaders in Edgewater voted 3-to-2 to keep its building moratorium that residents fought hard for in order to protect themselves and neighbors from flooding due to overdevelopment.

The Monday night vote comes after Senate Bill 180 was passed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year and strips away local government control and the ability to pass local ordinances.

"Three-to-two is a win; they're not repealing the moratorium in Edgewater. That's great for the people of Edgewater. That's what needs to happen when you protect the property of the people that live here," said Michael Poniatowski, a Volusia County resident.
