WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Deputies in West Baton Rouge Parish are investigating another overdose death inside the parish detention center, renewing calls for prison reform and accountability across the state.
Officials said Jeremy Paul died last week after allegedly obtaining a synthetic drug known as “mojo” from another inmate, 26-year-old Nicholas Henderson. Henderson is now facing a second-degree murder charge.
Sherie Thomas, executive director of the Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana, said Paul’s death emphasizes the need for urgent change.
“Anybody in Louisiana is just one mistake or maybe one error away from going into a facility and not going home,” Thomas said.
