OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha police are investigating multiple reports of thefts at cemeteries in the metro.

Sunday, Candy Hoagland was spending her weekend looking after family.

“I went to the graveyard to trim up my dad’s and my grandparent’s headstone,” explained Hoagland. “And then I always go over and do my friends.”

There, she noticed something was missing on a nearby grave.

“When I walked up to it, the vase was missing.”

That family friend was Omaha city councilman Ron Hug. The stolen vase belongs to his parents. When Candy saw that the vase had been stolen, she reached out to his family immediately.

“My father an Omaha Police officer for 34 years and I knew him well enough to know how he would feel about this if it wasn’t his vase,” said Hug. “So yeah, it is quite unsettling.”
