SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Hurricane Erin is gaining size and losing strength over the western Atlantic this morning, with forecasters warning of dangerous rip currents along much of the U.S. East Coast in the coming days. The Category 2 hurricane was located about 665 miles southwest of Bermuda and 720 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, with top sustained winds near 110 miles per hour. Erin is currently moving northwest at about seven miles per hour, but is expected to turn northward on Wednesday before shifting northeast by Thursday, staying offshore as it tracks between the U.S. mainland and Bermuda.
