GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Detroit Red Wings have announced the team will retire a ninth number this upcoming season: Sergei Fedorov’s No. 91.
Fedorov played 13 seasons in Detroit and won three Stanley Cups during his 18-year NHL career. The Hockey Hall of Famer ended his career with 483 goals and 696 assists.
Four hundred of those goals came in a winged wheel, which is fourth all-time in the franchise. He is tied for 11th with 908 games played for the Red Wings, seventh in assists (554), sixth in total points (954) and second in team history in plus-minus rating (plus-276).
The flashy two-way player made six All-Star Games and was the first European player to win the Hart Memorial Trophy (MVP) when he was awarded the prize in 1994.
