There was a different buzz around Averett University’s campus Saturday morning with freshman students moving in.
A dark cloud of financial troubles appeared to drift away. Instead, it was replaced with the yearly energy of new faces settling into a new home.
The students were joined by what’s described as an all-hands-on-deck effort by employees stationed around the campus to guide the way.
Even Averett University President Thomas Powell was jetting around the university, welcoming the newcomers.
Powell told the newspaper he had talked to about 15 students and parents by about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Judging by the splotches of sweat on his shirt, those conversations must have happened outside on what was already a hot and humid morning while students were moving into the dorms.
