The UK is set to get a new fifth-biggest supermarket with Morrisons overtaken. Lidl is close to overtaking Morrisons as the UK’s fifth-biggest supermarket, it has been reported.
Lidl has seen sales growth at a rate double that of the wider market. Lidl increased sales by 10.7 per cent in the three months to 11 August, according to the latest market share data from analysts at Worldpanel, formerly known as Kantar.
This was more than double the pace of the wider market, which rose 4.5 per cent. Lidl’s share of the grocery market was 8.3 per cent, 0.1 percentage points off Morrisons’ share of 8.4 per cent.

Morrisons continued to struggle with sales up just 0.9 per cent. Tesco had sales growth of 7.4 per c
