MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A trial date has been set for Jackson Hopper, the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Ellie Young at Shelby Farms last October, the district attorney's office said.

Hopper's trial is set to begin Feb. 9 of 2026. He is charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence.

Young, a 22-year-old medical student, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Shelby Farms Visitor Center after participating in a Breast Cancer Walk.

Witnesses allege they saw Hopper get out of a Jeep, fire two shots into Young's vehicle, then shoot her again when she got out. The former couple had recently split.

The shooting set off a chase through several counties that ended in Hopper being pulled from his overturned vehicle by deputies from Lauderdale and Dyer counties
