The Ocean City Beach Patrol has closed the ocean to swimming, wading and surfing Tuesday as tropical storm activity off the coast brings dangerous conditions to the resort town.
Officials warn that powerful breaking waves in the surf zone and a high risk of rip currents have created life-threatening hazards in the water.
Lifeguards remain on duty to monitor the shoreline and keep beachgoers informed, but authorities stress that the public should stay out of the water until conditions improve.
“We always have our Patrol out regardless of weather,” Ocean City Beach Patrol Captain Butch Arbin said. “We will also increase our mobile rescue patrols to assist the [Surf Rescue Technicians].”
Beachgoers are encouraged to check in with Surf Rescue Technicians stationed along the beach for
