Pontiac — Pontiac is reviving its youth commission after it had been defunct for more than a decade.

The Pontiac City Council voted last week to ratify the city's youth commission, which will have nine youths aged 13-18. They will be appointed by the city's next mayor and city council after the new officials take office in January, said Pontiac City Council President Mike McGuinness, who also is running for mayor in November.

“This is one of multiple areas where we have an opportunity to strengthen civic participation across our community, and in this instance, it was an advisory body that existed before,” McGuinness said.

The commission was dissolved in 2012 when the city was under the purview of a state emergency manager amid financial woes, said McGuinness.
