A Redford Township woman was shot and injured early Tuesday on Interstate 96 in Detroit, Michigan State Police said.

Dispatchers received a call at about 12:15 a.m. reporting there was a gunshot victim at a McDonald's restaurant on Grand River Avenue near I-96, according to authorities.

Troopers arrived and determined the 27-year-old victim was shot on the freeway, they said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the woman was driving in a car in the interstate's left center lane when another vehicle approached from behind in the left lane. She told troopers she heard multiple gunshots as the vehicle approached. The second vehicle then sped away, the victim said.
