Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced an appeal against the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s denial for a Major Disaster Declaration in assistance for Western Maryland following severe flooding in May.
The flooding left behind damage to homes, buildings, bridges and roadways in Allegany and Garrett counties. Moore said the damage totaled to nearly $34 million.
Moore wrote a letter to the White House in June asking for federal assistance to help resolve the damage caused by the natural disaster. His initial request was denied last month in a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which stated assistance to Maryland was deemed unwarranted.
