NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An additional human case of the West Nile Virus has been reported in Orleans Parish on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
The Louisiana Department of Health reported a confirmed neuroinvasive human West Nile virus case and another presumptive human WNV case that is still being investigated. While most human WNV cases are asymptomatic, common symptoms include headaches, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea or rash, in rare cases, severe illness can occur.
People over the age of 60, the immunocompromised and those with pre-existing medical conditions are at greater risk of severe illness.
The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board will conduct an area-wide adulticide spray mission on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The treatment will be conducted 8:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
