NORFOLK, Va. — A mother accused of abusing and killing her newborn child has pleaded guilty to a child abuse charge.
Z'ibreyea Parker and the baby's father, Hilary Johnson II, both faced second-degree murder and child abuse charges after Norfolk police found the 9-day-old baby unresponsive at The Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
Parker pleaded guilty to a charge of child abuse with serious injury, while prosecution of the second-degree murder charge was paused with the option to bring it back later.
Court documents say Parker and Johnson brought the infant to CHKD in May 2024. The child was cold to the touch when she arrived at the hospital.
