MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson told News13 Monday his decision not to prosecute a North Myrtle Beach businessman for his role in a 2023 road rage death was based on case law.
The state's top attorney and gubernatorial candidates also pushed aside criticism that the timing of his announcement was designed to draw attention away from a GOP rival.
"We don't play politics with the criminal justice system in South Carolina," Wilson said ahead of the second annual "Russell's Freedom Fry" at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort. "In the attorney general's office we look at the law, we apply the facts, we come to a conclusion. There's nothing political about this."
Scott Spivey, 33, of Tabor City, died in a Sept. 9 shooting along Camp Swamp Road in the Loris
