CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — Nero the K-9 lifeguard is getting suited up in his vest for some time out on Beltzville Lake near Lehighton.

Back in April, Newswatch 16 introduced you to Nero shortly after he tore both of his ACLs. His owner, Michele Rhodes of White Haven, says Nero went in for surgery in early June to repair both legs, "It was called bi-lateral TPLO, so pretty much they redesigned his two back knees more or less."

The injury kept the 2-year-old cane corso sidelined for the summer season.

Nero is usually patrolling the water with the rest of the crew from the American Academy of Canine Water Rescue.

The team of volunteers patrols the lake on weekends, just recently marking their fourth rescue of the season.
