UPDATE: Chattanooga city officials are holding a public hearing over the property tax rate proposals on Tuesday.
Mayor Tim Kelly addressed his final proposal for the rate ahead of the public hearing on Tuesday.
Mayor Kelly calls the 1.93 rate he is now proposing a "compromise" after some city council members countered his original rate proposal of 1.99 with a rate of 2.25.
Kelly says that while he does not support a rate of 2.25 at this time, he says he is sympathetic to the higher rate.
"Some on City Council think we should hold the property tax rate at 2.25 and capture all of the growth in Chattanoogans’ property values over the last four years. And while I don’t think that 2.25 is the right rate for right now, I’m sympathetic to that view. Because, frankly, there are a lot of thing
