Following the installation of 13 large girders above the Interstate 17's northbound lanes south of Flagstaff, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) switched to using one lane for each direction to the northbound lanes.

Serving as part of the future wildlife crossing over the I-17, the 13 girders are part of the structure above the highway's northbound lands. The traffic shift began on Aug. 7 as ADOT utilized the southbound side of the highway for one lane running in each direction. Late last week, the traffic shift took over the northbound lands while the southbound is closed for the installation of 13 more girders above those lanes. By utilizing one lane in each direction, crews have been able to avoid a full closure of the I-17 during construction of the overpass. Copy articl
