Days after Chicago police reported firing on a shooting suspect in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, authorities on Tuesday said the suspect was indeed wounded and sought treatment at an area hospital before fleeing without treatment.

The update from police came following the shooting in the 2000 block of East 71st Street just after 2 p.m. on Friday.

Police initially stated that no injuries were sustained and reported when an officer chasing after a gunman fired a shot. That alleged gunman had fired on another unidentified person and was fleeing when the officer’s weapon discharged, police said.
