IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Department of Homeland Security and ICE are attempting to have the case dismissed against the Iowa students impacted by the visa lawsuit.

In April 2025, a lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court challenging ICE’s termination of student statuses for three University of Iowa students and one University of Iowa graduate.

A judge granted a temporary injunction in May , preventing the students from being deported as the lawsuit plays out. The students argued that their SEVIS status being terminated would’ve prevent them from continuing their schooling or student-related employment.
