RIDGELAND — In the end, they went quietly.

After voting to appeal the S.C. Board of Education’s decision to take control of their school district a week ago, the Jasper County School Board changed course.

On Aug. 18, board members opted against initiating a pricey legal challenge against the state, instead choosing to cede local control and relinquish their elected status. Board member Priscilla Fraser provided this account, which was otherwise confirmed by The Post and Courier.

The board voted 6-3 against appealing during a virtual meeting. Board chairperson Joyce Gerald along with members Tedd Moyd and Carolyn Bolden voted against the measure.
