CHARLESTON — The data center that Facebook owner Meta Platforms is building near Aiken will tap into energy credits from a $100 million solar farm to be developed in Orangeburg County.
Silicon Ranch of Nashville and Columbia-based Central Electric Cooperative announced the project Aug. 19.
State-owned utility Santee Cooper also will be involved.
The exact location was not disclosed, and not all of the 100 megawatts of power will go to Meta site.
Under an agreement with the social media and technology company, Silicon Ranch will finance, build, own and operate the new solar array in coordination with Santee Cooper, which will deliver the power to all 19 small electric providers across South Carolina that make up Columbia-based Central.
