MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. (WV News) — More than 11,000 students returned to classrooms Tuesday as Monongalia County Schools marked the first day of the new academic year, a day officials say went smoothly thanks to months of planning and preparation.
Deputy Superintendent Donna Talerico said the day carried a mix of excitement and relief as buses rolled out and teachers welcomed students back.
“Today was day one, and we’re always happy to get it underway,” Talerico said. “We do a lot of planning, a lot of training, a lot of preparation, so it’s very rewarding to actually see it come together.”
The district operates 111 bus routes, transporting thousands of students daily. Talerico said ensuring consistent transportation is a major part of preparing for the new year.
