BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - New details in the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Giovanni Pelletier paint a troubling picture, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Sheriff Rick Wells, at a news conference in Bradenton, outlined what detectives believed happened in the early hours of Aug. 1

Earlier that evening, texts between Giovanni and his cousin Latrell Hearne show they were talking about his cousin picking him up from Charlotte County to take him to Brevard County.

5:41 p.m. -- They discuss details of a car that they used through the night which was Latrell’s grandmother’s white Malibu.

8:30 p.m. -- They are continue to text back-and-forth, and the topic of smoking marijuana is brought up.
