Anaheim police asked for the public’s help Tuesday tracking down a driver wanted in a fatal hit-and-run collision with a pedestrian earlier this month.

The collision happened just before midnight Aug. 9 at Knott and Orange avenues, Anaheim police Sgt. Matt Sutter said. The pedestrian, who was struck by a red or maroon car, was taken to a hospital where he died Aug. 12, Sutter said.

The victim was 58-year-old Gary Henry Looper, who was described as homeless, according to Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Looper was crossing Knott north of Orange when he was hit by the car, Sutter said. The driver fled the area, Sutter said.
