STAEWIDE -- In the face of widespread uncertainty due to rising costs, potential regulations, and climate change, two Maine nonprofits are partnering up to offer lobstermen a course on financial literacy and business startup skills.
According to centralmaine.com , the Island Institute and Maine Center for Entrepreneurs are behind the effort, which is called The Fishing Plus Accelerator Program. The goal is to teach lobstermen those skills and enable them to start other side businesses to ensure their own futures.
The training will also help fishermen boost their current operations.
The two organizations are now accepting applications for the program and any former or current lobstermen can apply. Sternmen and other crew members are also eligible.
