LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A house has been ruled a total loss after a fire this afternoon in Lake Charles.

Just before 5 p.m., the Lake Charles Fire Department learned of a house fire on Meadow Brook Way in the Morganfield subdivision. Video sent in by 7News viewers showed a large smoke plume billowing from the neighborhood.

Firefighters said the family got out safely, but the house was ruled a total loss.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.
