DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- The Buckeye State's mandatory 5-year redistricting begins in just a few weeks.
Local lawmakers are looking ahead to the redistricting of Ohio's congressional map. While some states appear to be trying to strategically redistrict, the redistricting process in Ohio occurs every 5 years, as it is constitutionally required.
"It's very specific in the constitution," said State Rep. Phil Plummer, (R-Dayton). "This is a mandate on us, and a couple other states are redrawing congressional lines. We have to."
In Ohio, there are 15 congressional districts, currently held by 10 Republicans and five Democrats.
On Sept. 30, the hearing for the first Congressional Map will be presented.
