WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Audrey Eakes had just arrived at the Eglin Air Force Base near Destin, Florida to start her assignment. At the same time, Bob Eakes had just returned to the same base after serving overseas.

They were both at a service club on the base.

“He and his friends were sitting across from me and another military wife, and they were sort of flirting,” Audrey says. “That’s how we met.”

They started dating shortly after, and got married six months later.

Now, they are being recognized for 72 years of marriage by the county that they have called home for over 50 years . Houston County recently issued a proclamation, acknowledging their successful marriage.
