HOULTON, Wis. — Authorities are trying to find out how a woman went from passing away at a hospital, to being cremated, to having her skull found by Boy Scouts in a ravine more than a year later.
The case stems from the discovery of the skull in October of 2002 in a trash bag several hundred yards from the nearest roadway across the river from Stillwater in Wisconsin.
Through new DNA and genetic testing, the DNA Doe Project determined the skull belonged to 92-year-old Alyce Catharina Peterson and made the announcement last week.
On Tuesday, KARE 11 Reporter Jennifer Hoff met with St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson in the very spot where Peterson's skull was found.
