MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Summer has brought numerous destructive fires to Connecticut, including deadly ones to Hartford and Cheshire within six days.
Two adults and two children died, and five people were injured, after Monday's fire at a single-family home on Shultas Place in Hartford. On Aug. 12, a man and a dog were found dead, and another man was hospitalized, after a fire at a home on Brookside Place in Cheshire.
The causes of the two house fires are still under investigation, but fire officials said that fires turning deadly is a far too common occurrence.
“Smoke is even more deadly than a fire,” said Fire Marshal James Mastroianni of the Middletown South Fire District Fire Department. “More people die because of smoke inhalation.”
