SMYRNA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A massive tree came crashing through a Smyrna home Tuesday during strong evening storms.
The homeowner said she was sitting on her couch in the living room on Ivy Spring Drive when the tree slammed into her roof. The impact shattered an upstairs window, tore a hole in the roof, ripped away the gutters, flattened her fence and punctured the side of the home.
Livinus Elias, a local contractor who responded to board up the damage, says he’s been busy this summer responding to similar incidents. He expects the calls to keep coming.
“It’s very risky to keep trees around your house,” he said. “In Georgia, we have a lot of clay, so the trees don’t go too deep into the soil. The roots just spread out at the top. That’s what the trees do in Georgia.”
