ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Fulton County Department of Senior Services is partnering with the Fulton County Department of Information Technology to launch a new online training program aimed at helping older adults recognize and avoid common cyber scams.

It’s Called “A.C.T,” or Avoid Cyber Threats.

Gloria Jenkins took the inaugural course on Tuesday. She’s a senior citizen who lost money previously from someone posing as a bill collector.

“I got this telephone call supposedly from Comcast telling me my bill was going up to $200 a month,” Jenkins said. “In order to not have service cut off, I was going to have to pay $168. My gut was saying, ‘Don’t do it,’ but I did. The scammers hit my account first thing Monday morning.”
