LIPSCOMB, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Just a week before voters head to the polls, the mayoral race in Lipscomb has erupted into accusations of corruption, retaliation and abuse of power.

Rob Sims, a former Lipscomb police officer now running for mayor, says his campaign announcement turned his world upside down.

“I am accusing the city of Lipscomb of obtaining false documentation to obtain a warrant for my arrest. I’m accusing the city of Lipscomb of accusing me of failing to turn in and stealing a badge and ID,” Sims said.

Sims claims the trouble began in May, when he emailed city leaders requesting a leave of absence while he campaigned, with the intent of returning to the police department after the race. He says that request was twisted into a resignation. Within weeks, he says he was demote
