CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The newly-opened Liberty Middle School held its first-ever open house on Tuesday to give new eighth graders a chance to get to know their new school ahead of the first day of classes on Wednesday.

This week will be the first in Harrison County Schools post-consolidation. The new Liberty Middle combines Mountaineer Middle and Washington Irving and has 850 students. With such a large student body, the school is starting students in stages for each grade, with all classes joining together on Thursday.

Liberty Middle Principal John Rogers said that the school has been preparing for this year in a number of ways. One of which is the construction and remodeling that has been done to accommodate the new students. Another is organizing students into “teams” (red, blue,
