SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Sun Prairie Area School District Board of Education appointed a new member Tuesday, after a resignation left the position empty.

Isaac Sung was appointed to the position on the board, and will serve until the next election in April.

Parents and community members watched the board interview eight candidates on Tuesday, and said that community engagement in decisions like this is more important than ever.

“Safety. We are looking to protect our kids,” said Dana Ujor, a parent and advocate for student safety.

This appointment comes after the former dean of students at Sun Prairie West was arrested and charged for possession of child pornography and exploitation.

As details were released during the investigation, the board faced scrutiny from the community
