MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County received a $2 million gift to support a program that helps prepare kids for college.

The money was gifted from Ascendium Education Group, an organization that invests in education and funds across the country.

The Boys and Girls Club said the money will go toward the AVID/TOPS Endowment which gives students real world experience before college.

AVID, which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, is a four-year elective focused on skill-building and academics while TOP, Teens of Promise, offers experiences including college visits, mentoring and career exploration.

An official with the club said the gift allows them to think further into the future without having to worry about funding.
