ATHOL, Idaho – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has unveiled plans for a $10 million project aimed at improving safety at US 95 and Parks Road in Athol, and officials are seeking community feedback for the project.
The project will eliminate left turns and median crossings, instead implementing a new frontage road to connect to Lawrence Road and Highway 53.
Heather McDaniel from the ITD discussed the safety benefits of these changes.
"Obviously, for safety reasons. It is a divided highway, four lanes, at speeds of 70 miles an hour right there. So there's a lot of traffic, and a lot of people trying to cross and also make left turns," McDaniel stated. "Oftentimes it becomes unsafe.
