EL CENTRO — The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is calling on its customers to voluntarily conserve energy this week as a dangerous heat wave sweeps across the region. A Conserve Alert is in effect from Wednesday, August 20, through Friday, August 22, to help reduce the strain on the electric grid during what's expected to be a period of record-breaking temperatures.
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for IID's entire service territory, including the Imperial and Coachella Valleys. Temperatures are forecast to climb as high as 116°F, posing a significant risk to both public health and the energy infrastructure.
