Migrant shelter at Mexicali’s FEX to be dismantled ahead of Fiestas del Sol

The large-scale migrant shelter at the FEX convention center, which has been in place since January, is now being dismantled. The shelter was originally intended to house migrants who might be massively deported from the United States, La Crónica newspaper reported.

Mexicali Mayor Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez stated that the shelter's removal is necessary to prepare for the upcoming Fiestas del Sol, a popular annual festival. The shelter's presence in the FEX parking lot had caused significant logistical problems.

“We are going to have the Fiestas del Sol soon and we were very concerned about what was there, which caused us, as you know, real setbacks,” Bustamante Martínez said.
