ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) - As Hurricane Erin creeps closer along the coast, it’s not only bringing large waves and tides but also dangerous conditions for beachgoers on Tuesday.

Double red flags are flying high at Pine Knoll Shores, warning people that swimming is off limits at the beach as the area braces for Erin’s impacts.

Other Crystal Coast communities like Atlantic Beach are also seeing Erin’s waves and tides roll in, but single red flags are waving in the sky, meaning swimming is not advisable as rip currents strengthen.

The waves are even becoming too strong for some surfers coming in.

“The waves are just massive, and they’re perfect, honestly. But, right now they’re starting to get worse, and I don’t recommend going out there if you have no experience,” surfer Cooper Flemin
